European Commission Delays Visa Waiver Scheme Until 2024

CNN Travel News: European Commission Delays Visa Waiver Scheme Until 2024

The European Commission has postponed the implementation of the ETIAS visa waiver scheme until 2024. The scheme requires all non-EU passport holders to obtain pre-trip authorization to enter the bloc. The fast online authorization will cost 7 euros and will be valid for three years.

The delay is good news for travelers from the 60 or so countries that don't currently require a visa to enter the EU, such as the United States and the United Kingdom. Compared to the United States ESTA program, which costs $21 for two years, the ETIAS is a bargain.

In other travel news, Croatia's northern Adriatic coast and Italy's Friuli region are recommended destinations. Asian countries are also keen to boost tourism economies, with Taiwan planning to pay people to vacation there, while Hong Kong has announced plans to give away half a million airline tickets.

Several new luxury hotels are set to open in the region this year, offering unique and exciting experiences for travelers.

Finally, transport designers and engineers are working on greener, cleaner, and faster transport solutions for the future.

India has already opened the first section of a 1,386-kilometer expressway linking New Delhi and Mumbai, which is expected to halve journey times between the two cities once completed. However, a Pennsylvania man was arrested after allegedly trying to bring explosives on a flight to Florida, reminding travelers to always abide by safety regulations.
